research and ideas into how I might layout my double page spread

I think these ideas would work well with my magazine house style as they are shuttle, which goes well with my nude colour theme through out the contents and the front cover. I find these dps interesting as they are quite minimalistic but different and unique, I'd like to try this kind of editing with my own images of chloe to focus on when I create my double page spread this is because she is the featured artist and it will look more eye catching if the magazine stood out above the others because of it's original unique edits.

double page conventions

A large image- of artist who has been featured
A pull quote - taken from the interview with the celebrity.
 Bold text – important names.

A stand first – introduction to the article/feature.
Text – size 11, same size used throughout.
Drop cap – usually bold, tells reader where to start reading.
Columns – usually 2-4 to keep an organised structure.
By-lines – put under images to credit photographer.
Short headline- Usually just 1 or 2 words to state what the feature is about.
Usually follows same colour scheme.

Informal tone - Quite chatty, especially if it's an interview.
Allow title to bleed onto the other page to show the pages are linked.

Planning the double page spread

In my double page spread I want to talk about the main focused image on my front cover (CHLOE) this is essential the front cover is meant to draw people in. I want the double page spread to again follow the theme that I have created on my other pages, I want to use the nude color palate to make the artist look more interesting and innocent as she is portrayed in the front cover making her look unique.

Which content I want to use and why

I think from the contents pages I have created so far that this one is most suited to my house style and looks more professional and has an order to the layout as the others seem crowed and messy. For example 3rd one that has two very enlarged images of both Tom and Chloe, I was trying to play around with the editing but found the more I played with the photos the page began to look more tacky and more unprofessional as the photos started to look pixelated.

Why I decided to keep my original final front cover

I thought that the end final front cover was boring and lack color and I wanted it to be more unique and different so I experimented with other photos that I had already taken,  so I asked people of my peer group suitable for the audience what they thought. I went through each individual photo and asked them which one they thought had a better image and looked more realistic, I was surprised to find that everyone preferred the images with our the blood and preferred them my original finished cover. I've came to the conclusion that because of what my target audience agreed it's important that I pick that cover, although I think the others are more interesting the audience thought the blood was weird and unusual.
Final front cover
One of the attempts
As you can see from these two (2nd image is an example of one other attempt) there is an obvious differences, I wasn't sure which one I preferred until my target audiences decided for me.
These are the reasons why they may have suggested they preferred the image, they highlighted that they liked the use of photography in the original front cover because it made the magazine look shuttle instead of gothic and it suited better with music style and the house style.
Also as you can see the text suits and fits a lot better with the first photo because the colour from the image is matched appropriately and it looks less gory. The photos with the blood may offend someone people because they dislike blood or because they find the image disturbing, however others might think its interesting.

Planning the Contents page

These are layouts as to how I may have my contents page, I've tried different ones to experiment and see all possible ways I could have either my photos or pages numbers. I did this to see if I could find interesting layouts and make my magazine look different.
